Has anyone had success dyeing or painting the upper plastics and headliner to make a one color interior? If so, do you have any pics? I'm thinking about doing it to my Si. But my main concern is how the upper painted/dyed pieces match the factory lower ones. Worst case I guess, is just paint All the plastics so everything Does match.

The hardest part would be using proper prep so the paint/dye does not flake off. I'm sure it's too cold out now to even do this here

I did do a search but came up empty...

Sem dye paint works very well on the interior plastics brings it back to look like new oem factory black, I did change mine to all black on the upper interior also but I replaced the headliner with new black vinyl since my old headliner was peeling off everywhere so I'm not sure how it would look, dye paint can be used on carpet and seats so it should be fine on the headliner

I did my whole inside.  I have some pics if I can find them.

It came out factory new.

The stuff is called SEM color coat.  I think I found the best price at www.tcpglobal.com

They have the exact black and the exact gray.  I actually ordered first the color swatch sheet

so I could be extra sure.

I recommend using 1000 grit sandpaper though not a scotch pad.

Steps:  wipe off years of dust and debris.  Use their cleaner buffing lightly with 1000 sandpaper.

Wash with hose.  Dry with compressed air.  Wipe down thoroughly with alcohol (I used methanol from

home depot).  Blow dry again.  Coat with plastic prep really good.  Light coat color coat, let flash off,

heavy coat color coat, flash off, very light coat.

I took my entire interior out, every single piece fall of 2011.  It still looks factory.

If you skip the steps above it will work great.

You can also use the same SEM color coat for the carpet.  I've used a number of products on several cars.

The carpet dye did not work out as well at all.  Steps:

Using the SEM color coat fully saturate the carpet.  Work in with a brush.  I used a (new) toilet brush with the

handle cut off.  After it dries a few days use just fluff the fibers with a scrub brush.  Comes out perfect.

That SEM color coat stuff is the sh*t it really is.

It's not letting me post a link to the pics.

Did you use an ad promoter on the plastics?  if so, which one?

1stgenhybridCR-X & Condor thanks for the info and pics. After seeing how your interiors came out I'm doing this for sure. Does the 1g crx have black or off-black plastics?

I will get you the number codes to the black and gray that are a perfect match.

Sorry in the above I called the adhesion promoter plastic prep.  I had forgotten the word for it.

I used the SEM spray dye paint : Landau black

it matched perfect

crx interior has a black that has a slight gloss to it, but not near semi-gloss, its definitely close to a black charcoal color

Do it right.  I have a gen2 glasstop crx which a previous owner had painted the rear plastics black after some fading..  I was vacuuming it off this afternoon.  Wonderful gray and black camo rear interior now..
