Mentioned that to him once before.  I think we may have covered early on but it’s been a while now!

Yep we mentioned it before. I'd just like to see the actual modifying to make it happen. Sounds like it could be a direct bolt on if your lucky, or minimal grinding?  I'll check myself once I have my garage back..

glad you got a set!  I was not sure if that is what NA Spirit was sayer or that he was just waiting until he got other parts.  I did not ask Brian if they all sold out.  I know of four people who got sets.

My order processing now. Hopefully I get a set

Magoon, originator of this thread got a set as well.  Hopefully he chimes in when his set arrives.

we didn’t get to work on the swap this weekend.  Axles were not build and stuff we ordered from K Tuned did not arrive.  Plan is to work on it Wednesday,  I am itching to hear this thing roar to life!

Anyone have a source (book, website, or whatever) to recommend which describes all the K series engine control strategies in detail? Ive searched but havent found what Im looking for.

Are you trying to decide what ECU option to go with?  OEM with Honda installed or Ktuner VS fuel tech or something stand alone?

Yep, thats a big part of it. I ultimately need to decide on the ECU.

The rest is to understand more about all the sensors & actuators used in controlling engine operation. How they work, open vs closed loop ECU control strategies, etc., etc.. I have this kinda book on Ford OBD I systems thats been useful diagnosing problems with a couple of OBD I Fords and even on a later EEC IV OBD II Ford after pulling CEL codes. Im a mechanical engineer, ran many hours of dyno performance tests, and had a little exposure to electronic controls towards the end of my career in DIESEL fuel injection systems makes me pretty dangerous, Im sure.

Im planning an 04-05 TSX K24A2 with throttle body instead of drive by wire. Ill be satisfied with OE spec engine performance in a street driven CRX. Ok with running a cat to try to come close to original emissions compliance. Would be happy with, or even prefer, an OE ECU, but the throttle configuration change likely prevents that. Also ok with running intake & exhaust systems as close as practical to OE hoping to achieve comparable intake and exhaust restrictions so the OE ECU map would work. An unknown.

Since the plan is to start with a short block, head assy, and build from there, a resource I ask about would help identify all the sensors and actuators to source to run the engine. The Ford OBD I ECU only controlled closed loop within the lower ranges of rpm and throttle position. Wondering about K series ECU strategies. Closed loop with a wide band O2 sensor everywhere in operation?

Im hoping to find guidance on these and other questions. If minor tuning tweeks are needed for the swap, Ill entertain the idea of doing those myself.

Honda isnt the same as Ford wrt info getting out into the public domain, and that my ask may be pretty optimistic. But the professional tuners must start somewhere, right?

Ive begun contacting ECU sources. Right now I think my best solution would be finding an ECU with a tunable 04-05 TSX map thats throttle body compatible Something else I hope would be addressed in the ?imaginary? resource I seek is what are the sensor differences between DBW and throttle body systems. The ECU might not need to be tunable if fueling is controlled closed loop over the whole engine operating map and has enough control authority to compensate for intake and exhaust restriction differences from OE.

Hope my long detailed answer didnt make you sorry you asked. Haha

These are actually all good questions, many of which will be addressing in the coming video series HASport will put out.  K20.org is another great resource as there are countless swaps on there done in other Hondas but much of the info your talking about is universal.

In the mean time let me try and help a little.  ECU wise you can go with RSX or TSX but the TSX has some things you have to work around like the e-mobilizer and is why a lot of people, like me, go with the RSX ecu.  Then you just get the ECU that will match your transmission.  I am running a 5 speed so I went with the base model ECU.  Doesn’t mean you can’t make them work either way just makes it easier.  You can add a Hondata or Ktuner unit to any of these to allow you to custom tune the motor.

Going from drive by wire to cable, which I did as well isn’t that hard it will be addressed in the engine harness and the ecu pin out.  This will also be addressed in some video content HASport is making and there is word that CJs wiring may make a harness for us or even have one that will work for those who don’t want to tackle wiring.

The ECU, with one of the above mentioned tuners installed, can be tuned to run in open, closed or both.  All of these offer base maps to get you up and running and you can tweak them or go to a local dyno tuner and have them fine tune it for you.

Hope this helps some. Also Brian is going to address some of these in a video tomorrow.

We worked on the swap some tonight.  Got the brake booster line made.  Tip, get a booster hose from a Honda J35 3.5 V6 and you can cut it into two pieces and make a perfect line.  We also installed the KTuned fuel rail and water housing with filler neck.  Very nice parts.  The fuel rail allowed us to keep the fuel line tighter to the valve cover.

there is a youtube channel called el scorcho motorsports, he used a DIY efi kit called speeduino for a k24, i think he had everything working but vtc, and had a strategy to implement that but sold the car before doing it....another option for you

Been a while since we actually spent time on the swap, but got on it again last night.

wrapped up all of the vacuumed and fuel lines as well as built the charging harness and installed the belt.  Finally got the right size belt!

I am very happy with the way the fuel system came out.  Nice and clean and keeps filter and regulator away from the header.  I also found a BMW fuel line that worked perfectly as the return line with a molded in 90.

Axles have been made and are getting heat treated right now so hopefully those will be ready to install this weekend.
