1.5" is HUGE! (if you picture it from the mounting flange as a 360* circle, your timing or plug wires are off-1 at the cap.)

turning toward windshield is advance, toward radiator is retard. motor rotates counter clock wise from drivers side of wheel looking at car..

Look for some blue NGK wires or a brand that's "spiral core" if you can't afford the NGK's

Red dust = RED DEATH.. (if it's all over the inside/underneath of cap, the spark shorts out on it and miss fires/scatters)  Look for another dizzy on Rockauto. MAKE SURE IF IT"S THE SAME AS YOURS

Do you have the vacuum can that's got 2 ports on it? (they were made to break off if a butterfly lands on them..)

Vacuum can might be shot (not holding vacuum and or advancing.. messing up your timing) Use a length of hose and suck on it. Does the vacuum go away or stay on your tongue? Then with it running, Does the idle change? (that way you KNOW if the advance plates are moving.. They gum-up over decades and stick)

THEN, if all that's fine, Check your Catalytic converter if its' clogged. (if it gets TOO rich, it can clogg up the bricks and overheat.) If clogged up and you're state doesn't mind you 'modding' your exhaust, unbolt it, sell it and make an adapter to cut out the cat. (I think I may have pics on here somewhere of what I did..)

Look into a 4 wire 02 sensor conversion. (I did it to a few of my older 1 wire cars and it helped. NOT like 40hp, but it did help.)

Get your mechanical timing set/figured out FIRST. Then cap/rotor Good quality since don't think Honda stocks them any longer (2g Prelude ones have all plug ends sticking upward instead of sideways) clean/widen gap on plugs a bit .038-.045 maybe?

After getting all the other stuff checked/replaced you can adjust your valves. Are they 'ticking'? Sometimes if the motor has a gazzilliion miles on it the rocker shafts wear in the cam towers and no matter how many times you adjust the lash, they tick. (new head or shafts/followers)

and of course, new gaskets and O-ring for dizzy. (if you have oil/sludge down under the dizzy all over the trans bell housing)

Hope this helps some.
