Sorry to hear about your wagon.  Always sad to lose a good car.

If you want to stick with single cam, you can put a head in from a crx si.  These, from what I have heard, are more reliable and less liable to cracking because they do not have the cvcc system, and you can probably make a lot more power with it.  If you want a dohc, use a d16a1, the engine fron the 86 to 89 integra.  You can swap just the head in, but that takes some work and I don't know how well it would work.  For carbeurators, a lot of people stick with the stock one, but if you aren't using cvcc, then I would consider weber.  A lot of people tune them great and get a ton of power, but they are fickle.  Overall, it depends on how often you will drive it, how much money you have, and what you are willing to sacrifice in the name of more hp.

If you can't find someone to take that motor off your hands elsewhere, I'm sure that there are a number of people here that would buy it.

Ok, I have decided to just pull the trigger and take the head to a machine shop to get the valves fixed, and the head milled slightly.  I do have a few questions about that though.  Do any d series cam gears fit on the EW1, or do I have to find a special size?  Also, is there any work that really makes this head shine?  I figured mill .01 to .03 inches, which a lot of people say to do, then port and polish.  I am also going to get the head checked for cracks, heat tanked, valves reground, valve seat reground, and new valves put in if needed.

So I looked into and at the valves.  cylinder 1 through 3 exhaust valves have  a white deposit on them, and cylinder 4 is black.  Cylinder 4 auxiliary chamber has less carbon deposit coming from it than cylinders 1 through 3, and where the face of the exhaust valves of cylinders 1 through 3 is white-ish, the face of exhaust valve for cylinder number 4 is black like the intake valves of all cylinders.  The intake stems are still shiny.  I'm wondering if maybe I prematurely removed the head, and that it could be a distributor problem, but I don't know much about the distributors of these cars.  I would post pictures, but I am not sure how, but I can post links to the pictures if it will help.
