I was looking into it but I don't think I can easily get the equipment I would need to calibrate it.

I've looked into it, but just decided on an LC-1.
It runs! Carb to Megasquirt EFI.

A friend & I built one of the Tech-Edge DIY wideband's years ago. I still use it and it works great. Not sure if Tech-Edge is still around...

its a very accurate a/f meter. the small guages you buy arent quite accurate, widebands are.

My advice: get one with a display because if you don't you need to upload the data to a computer every time. And even after you do that, the graph is not useful unless you know the throttle position. Yeah you can pipe in your throttle position sensor signal, but is much simpler and easier to go by the feeling in your foot and simply look at the display while you are driving.

Also, why not just pay the $300 and buy one already assembled?

I've got an LM-1 unit; came with digital display, serial cable to hookup to computer, plus everything else you need. Got it new for just $325 CAD. A PLX unit is around that price too.

well the point of the DIY WB is that its for the PO man like me who needs to tune but lacks the $ to do it the easy way

Performance shops that have a dyno usually charge $25/hr to tune with their wideband... IF you have any shops like that near you.
