Hail Farewell To Pepe:(

08 June 2009 - 01:06 PM

I regret to inform my fellow members that Pepe, my '87 civic will be leaving us. sad.gif I turned it in today to be crushed after a long battle with rust and other problems.

After 100 plus hours of welding over the past few years, the shell is deteriorating to much.(Lovely German salt)

Please have a look at my Gallery to pay respects.
I will be posting a lot of parts for sale to include 2 sets of clear corners, EDM taillights, cam and crank pulleys, etc.
It's been a learning experience and I want to thank everyone that gave me advice along the way.

The Evil Of All Evils!

07 July 2008 - 05:40 PM

I just wanted to share this with everyone. Some people ask what they should look at when buying a 1st/3rd gen. and I always stress this above all things...
Our story begins...
This is Pepe, my little mule..

From the outside Pepe seems like a very nice little mule..

And Pepe's heart looks healthy and strong...
BUT!!!!! After Pepe's annual check up....
Please turn away if you have a weak stomach.....
CANCER!!!!!!!THE EVIL ABOVE ALL EVILS FOR OUR BELOVED HONDAS!!!!

I noticed a small hole under the car where the fender well comes down to the bottom of the car.
I then decided to pull the fenders to see if it was under the fender..

And after I grinded all the light rust away I saw that it went all they way up to the structural support.

I could not see this at all under the plastic wheel well cover.

The Cancer was a lot worse than i thought..
After 8 hours of metal shaping and welding Pepe is now recovering nicely, but the cancer could always come back...
The Moral of this story is...
No matter how clean these cars look from the outside, always take the time to do a thorough rust check!!!
That means under fenders in the front, the area where the jack supports and panhard rod supports in the back, and under the carpet inside, both sides at the front and behind the seats where the floorboard stops towards the back. THIS CAN SAVE YOU HOURS OF HEAD ACHES AND $$!!!
Thanks for tuning in..
