Good news, I got it sorted out... Actually I didn't personally get it sorted out, but Yi at Racing Trenz did (located in Denver). Some times you just don't have the right tools or time to get it done yourself. Yi is a rockstar and if you ever need anything done for a 3rd gen he is very knowledgeable on the subject.

It took me a while to find Yi. I called a lot of "custom" auto shops and nobody really wanted anything to do with it.

Tire tucks just a little bit in the front. With plenty of adjustment left to go lower if needed.

I'd rather talk about wagons, but ok. Yes. I was nominated for best Evening Newscast. I am, or I was a Newscast Director... I am taking a break from that though, the stress was giving me chronic migraines and making me hate my life. So now I make dick doctor commercials... And car ads. Way less stressful and get to work in a environment that cultivates creativity rather than crushing it. Although I Directed a Special Olympics Torch Carrying Special before I left, and that may make a run at the Emmys this year? I'll keep you posted. lols

I wonder if CRX chrome door handles are a direct swap??? I mean, I might as well match it up? I will consider that in the future.

Also, a friend picked up some wagovan jailbars for me a while ago... And today I was at the junkyard and there was a destroyed 86 wagovan there, everything was missing- headliner, interior plastics, primer paint on everything else..... Anyways I did notice the plastic plugs were still in the side of the pillars from the Jail bars! ah ha! Now I know where they mount! So I went home and mounted them.

Cool project, I'm impressed. Also looking to do some of the same things you've already accomplished like where you found the clear Toyota markers for the bumper, and (although purple as you say) side markers.  Also where did you find the center console?

I have an 86 wagon with some minor mods but still working on making it better.

Funny thing for me reading your story was I had a blue 85 for years and I wasn't particularly fond of the recessed lamps.  Then one day I got rear-ended by some dude in a Jag just talking away on his iphone.  He pushed me into the trailer hitch on a pickup and rendered my little shuttle totaled.  It took a couple of years but I final found my blue 86 out in Hillsboro for 175 bucks.  Its been completely gone through and I've been luck finding original parts that I like.  I've done a few things you might be interested in.  Like you I've followed RPR for years until only recently decided to jump in.

PLAN "B" drill out and rethread...

The entire tool selection at Sears or the contents of a Snap-On truck will do you no good if you do not know how to use them.

Regardless of what's in there, I'd vote for plan B - drill them out.  Do those mounting holes go through or not?  Whatever they are filled with would dictate what lengths you need to go to in order to get 'er done.  IE if the filler is silicon or bondo, do your best to drill a pilot hole (~1/8"), then creep up to the tap drill size, and finally chase the existing threads with a 2 flute tap.

 I've considered that.

They do not go through... I will work on them soon...

nothing really new to report. Ran into some passenger side mats. 4th gen brown mats. and 3rd gen sedan grey mats. No driverside though... and they don't fit my wagon... so that was a bust... but both are in great condition.
