I can't help with the problem but wish to elaborate on one of the previous comments.

I had the dealer's mechanics tell me a looong time ago that by pouring a little bit of window washer fluid into the carbthat it will take out all the carbon in the engine. Just be gentle and keep the revs up a little bit. You will see lots of white smoke out the back end. JS

If you want one of these Logos send me a PM

Could you post a pic of where you found this O-ring that needed replacing and where it came from?

sad.gif no pic yet?

The entire tool selection at Sears or the contents of a Snap-On truck will do you no good if you do not know how to use them.

After rebuilding the head and slapping everything back together - including re-timing and such - it runs better. I don't get the "dieseling" after the engine is switched off. It hasn't sputtered, either.

I still have a loping idle, though.

you should look into rebuilding or replacing your carb if you haven't already. As old as our cars are everything thats rubber will have gone bad ages ago. inside the carb are like 20 little o-rings and rubber gaskets. Some wd-40 sprayed all over your carb base plate/insulator thing will revitalize the rubber if you can't get a new one (which you should do if it is the original) The carb is like the heart of your car. all hearts go bad when old. heart transplant man. sounds like everything else is doing good. keep up the good fight.

Saw replacement carbs on ebay lately. Webber? Wonder how they compare to original?
