this question probably has been asked so many times. it is worth getting my stock enginge to my 86 civic si engine rebuilt.? i asked this one place they said it wont be worth it and just do a swap. they told me it would be 2200 for engine rebuilt and thats including labor. they said they would do a bseries swap for me for 3400. what is the simplest swap i could do? or should i just get my engine rebuilt?

If that includes parts and labor for 3400 they wont make money unless it's a b18a1. Simplest swap is the 1g teg. Do it yourself and you'll save alot of money, plus there's alot of support right here so you shouldn't have too many problems.

If less than 150 HP will make you happy, this engine is fine, Dave

The first gen teg engine is a really easy swap especially the brown top, alot of write ups have been done so you dont have to worry about the wiring. Also with basic bolt ons it really makes these cars fun. So if your crunched for time this is always a good alternative.

You can build your own engine for a third of that price.

Why not just get a used cylinder head and have it put on? Total cost shouldn't be more than $800 including the head, belts and water pump at a reputable shop. You could do it yourself with tech help from us for about $300. There are few cars built that are easier to work on than ours.

I agree with hondaguy, but I am thinking you could easily do a cheap D series swap and have something really comparable to what you driving now if you used the CG tranny and mounts (just like the 86-89 teg swap) and did an OBD0 D series swap. You can use the tranny mounts and all that is needed is the driver's side engine mount to be cut and welded. Cable tranny, no adapter needed........... you could probably do this for $1500 or less, I am thinking $1000 but that is buying a cheap D15B2 off craigslist which are a dime a dozen. You'd have to to get the MPFI stuff for it, but it is easy to find and cheap cause nobody wants it, everybody wants OBD1 now. If you watch you can pick up a PM6 for $40 and the whole intake and everything can usually be found for $75 or less on ebay. The major advantage is you can still get all the parts for the motor, including the MPFI TPS.

Thought I would add the link on how to do the D series swap with the CG tranny:

Same motor. As long as your have an EFI system in your civic, it will be direct.

Hey artic-86si I have a 89 1st gen integra eng that I was going to put in my 86 CRXsi but plans have changed. The block work has been done, 30 over new pistons, bearings, crank work ect ect. I have all the parts. t-belt,h20 pump, gaskets ect ect. The head still needs to be gone over. I also have the JDM cams for it. I will be putting up here for sale soon, saw your post so if you want dibs on it let me know. you will have to put it together. I can also send you pics. Thank and good luck Mark....

Hey Millcreek, I may be interested in your teg engine if you do not get any other takers. I have a 1986 Civic SI that I purchased new and after over 200k the head needs reworked anyhow and I expect the lower engine could also use some attention. Swapping for a Teg engine would be a good solution for me. Where are you located?
