Ok I went to start my car the other day and the main relay just started clicking like crazy, so i guess it is broken. I take it out [By the way I have an 85 Si] The part # is RZ-0017. But when i order, every shop including honda dealer says it should be RZ-0042 that the RZ-0017 is for a 1.8 accord, anyway i install the new relay and i get the same clicking from the new relay?? Help I guess what i am asking is are main relays interchangeable or is there something else causing the relay to malfunction? Car will not start Need Quick help any ideas.

Relays click when there isnt enough power, when there is a short, or when they are malfunctioning. If the 17 worked before then why shouldnt it work now?

The first one only happened to me when i left my foglights on overnight and the relay started to click when the battery got close to dieing.

Tighten your connections. And whoever told you the part number is for the accord should also realize that most of our parts for our cars can be found throughout honda history. For instance, cv race bearings are used on the accord(can't remember what model) As well as certain lamps, and cosmetic parts were cross compatable. It would only go to assume that the same is for other parts as well.

The entire tool selection at Sears or the contents of a Snap-On truck will do you no good if you do not know how to use them.

I mean th enumber on the part differs from what you would buy at a dealer if you ask for a main relay for an 85 crx si they will sell you RZ-0042. But in my car is 0017 and it is the original. I fyou so a part search for RZ-0017 it coms up fo r1.8 liter accord . and th car turns over it just wont start because the fuel pump will not turn on due to clocking relay . Whick connections should i check?

This would be where you really need to get the 17. Now for the connections I would start with the neg battery cable. On the battery, then where it grounds to the frame then where it goes to the engine. Then I would do the same on the positive side. Now for the part. check to make sure you are not arching onto the frame or exhaust (the connections)

Yes check for arching. MY friend couldnt figure out for weeks why his car would run...then die. Well what would happen is when he tried to rev it up the coil wire current would arch to the tach wire and make the tac bounce and enividbly flood the engine. It would idle perfectly.

So now that youve limited the problems i would check what we said.

As far as part numbers go Honda can print you a cross reference sheet that shows every vehicle that has a particular part in it. For instance, If you need a compatible door hinge they can print out every car that has the same part for you. JS

If you want one of these Logos send me a PM
