I have a 1986 Mugen Widebody Crx with a d16a1, running an LHT water cooled, Jackson racing super charger with 8.5 lbs of boost.
The tranny I'm running is a completely rebuilt d16a1 CG tranny, with all new bearings, all new syncros and a limited slip diff.
The problem I'm having is that even with the tranny rebuilt, I still have major grinding when I shift gears. I even pulled the tranny back out, took it apart and inspected the gears for wear, replaced what I saw was worn and still have a grinding issue.
I called Jamie Houseman about it, who is a tranny guru, like most if you know, and what he told me was that the old integra trannys only have a single set of syncros and can't take the amount of power that I'm throwing at it.
What I need to know is if there is any other tranny that will bolt up to my engine, that is a newer gen Honda tranny, with multiple sets of syncros per gear. I don't care if its a hydraulic tranny, cause I can get a cable conversion from hasport.
I know I haven't been on the forum for a while, but many of you know my car, Tom included, and I'm really hoping you guys can help me out. Thanks.

When you turn your car on, does it return the favor?

I've looked at bolting up the next generation box - the L3 from the D16A8/9. The front side is ok, but the back around the engine mounts and starter motor has different patterns by about an inch; and the mounts are different. It's probably doable.

I haven't looked beyond that as I haven't had a selection of boxes available.

There was a mugen trans was there not? And if your really serious, have a look at making an adapter plate, its not going to be fun.

I have a spare engine in the garage. I can probably get a hold of a d16a9 tranny and try it out and see how it looks.
I'd really not prefer to have to make an adapter plate.

Yes. If you look to start drilling new holes like I did, do be really careful. Almost made a hole into the oil resevoir of the box. Luckily I did the 'measure twice - oh, not that way!'

Well if you could come up something viable I could definitely get some CNC cut.

Hey Jeff.
Thanks for the link to that thread. Read all 8 pages of it. It's pretty crazy.
Now I'm starting to have second thoughts on getting rid of my tranny since is seems that every Honda guy in the world wishes they had a CG tranny in their car.
Maybe I should just pull the tranny out and have Jamie Houseman have a look at the inside of it since im lucky enough to only live about 3 hours drive from him.
When you turn your car on, does it return the favor?
