My car idles at 2k all the time one problem second problem is when the eninge is hot and i turn off the car take the keys out the car tries to turn on by itself.

The belts would move and it would make this sputter sound like its trying to turn on but it cant the engine would shake and the exhaust would shake and then after some time it stops. sometimes its only for a second some other times it goes one for 30-45sec it dependson how hot the motor is or at least that wut i think... pretty weird problem and knda confusing if anyone knows wut it could possible be. im thinking maybe extra fuel getting dumped in there somehow its a wild guess its my first time working on carbs im trying to learn. if someone can help me in anyway that would be cool

can a moderator move this thread sorry. but to add to the post i didnt bleed the coolant the correct way yet the way ive been taught is turning on the car without the cap onb ut too much coolant comes out sometimes so im gonna drain it and do it the correct way and c if that helps any.

ive also noticed that it could be wehen the coolant temps are high the car tries to turn back on. umm its very confusing for me im not sure ill bleed it correctly tomorrow and get back to you guys.

it's called a run on

you probably have so much carbon deposit in your piston chamber that it's clowing red. and it is hot enough to egnite the gas coming from you carb.

or otherwise known as dieseling. My sedan has been doing it ever since I put the weber on it. I think its a mixture of the carbon and running a little rich.

And just turn your idle down, its a matter of turning a screw. Check the service manuals on this site for pictures and explinations. Link is up there ^

well i it's carbpn..here's a cheap way to get rid of it....pull the air filter off and while the car is running take a spra bottle of water and spray into the intake....this should clean up the carbon deposits pretty well...just don't get carried away with the water...

i just bled the coolant the idle is still at 2k. and i think know the fan doesnt turn on the car was starting to get past the middle and some more where the fan usually turns on but it didnt turn on i turned off the car i turned on ac and the fan turned on hmm. so i guess its the fan switch or somethign i dunno.

on my old carb the idle screw was all the way out and it didnt drop idle i got a new carb from pick n pull for 50 dollra dont know if its good or not. im going to try to drop the idle with the screw and c if that works.

hmm so the run on is caused by the carbon if i get rid of some of the carbon it would stop doing it or is idling high bringing more carbon? sorry for all the questions but i need ehlp thanks.

You have to turn the screw all the way in to drop the idle, not all the way out.

That might be part of the problem. If your car is running rich or hasn't been cleaned with a chemical cleaner for the combustion chamber in a long time, then carbond deposits could just be getting out of hand. Try the water, and try some carb cleaner too.

Cheers,
Mark
