Specifically referring to the 3dr hatch vs. a 1gen crx. Are they interchangeable?

I believe they share the same physical features.... spring rate might vary though.

The lengths might be different, but this is easy to deal with by swapping the torque tubes when you change T-bars.

Shorter torque tubes = stiffer spring rates

Do a search on torsion bars. I think Tom (rpr) put about 4 different torsion bars side by side to show the difference in lenght and thickness.

Or just do like Greg said and go with the shorter tubes. If you got some CRX aftermarket torsion bars (about 23mm) and shorter towue tubes it would be a pretty nice setup for the front.

The Civic bars are about 1/2" shorter, if that. Probably more like 10mm. I doubt it would make THAT much of a difference, but it is a difference.

Granted, the length difference is not significant as far as spring rates... but it is significant if you make the mistake of putting long tubes on short bars and spend several hours wondering (and swearing and hammering) why you can't get the damned circlip installed sad.gif Don't ask me how I know........

Good info guys! So if I want to install the civic torsion bars on a crx, I absolutely need the civic tubes? If so, are the civic tubes a direct bolt on to the crx?

Thanks!

Why not just put CRX parts on the CRX?

Yes the tubes are a direct fit, but you might have to slot the end caps. And I suppose the reason for using Civic bars on a CRX is primarily price. I suppose if I get a super deal on some stiffer bars and I knew I could get tubes at a boneyard, I'd take em!

BTW, If you ever decide to run 29mm bars, you might have the same problem that I did in that the bar diameter is about the same as the splined end. This doesn't allow you to drive the bar forward enough to install the front spring clip. I wound up slotting the torque tube end caps slightly and they are now used as the primary retainers for the bars and you don't worry about the front spring clip. According to Blake at OPM, they aren't going to go anywhere.

I don't use the clips on either end. Never been a problem for me. And if I was going to use shorter Civic t-bars on a CRX, I'd just put them in and not worry about the tubes. But that's just me, and if it doesn't work, don't sue me!

I have not done this yet but the Wagon bars are a bit bigger and can be fitted to the civic or CRX as long as you use the torqe tubes that they slip into. They are shorter than the Civic torsion bars and you may need to use self tapping screws to re attach the dust covers on the ends.

clips, i don't need no stinkin clips..........

i ran the last SOLO 1 weekend without clips and had zero problems. Once those bars are in there...........they are IN there.

The integra bars are longer also, like the CRX bars. I know this because I tried to put stock teg bars in my civic. Luckily the guy I bought them from was nice enough to give me my money back when I told him they didn't fit. He said he knows teg bars fit a CRX fine. Interesting that the bars would vary in length at all, really. I got 23mm bars in my civic and I recommend the 24mm if you can get them. They are sway-a-ways purchased from king motorsports. I was able to keep all my stinkin clips too :)

The integra bars are longer by a LOT. Like 2 inches plus. Not even remotely close to fitting without changing the tubes and moving the rear cups. Not worth the effort, IMNSHO. And that guy must have been on the pipe if he said they would fit.
