Hey guys and gals,

I thought it might come in handy for everyone to post up if they have completed or are soon doing their D16a1 integra engine swap, post what car they did it in, and if the car was FI or carb. Since this is one of the most common and practical swaps for our generation of cars, as it is mostly a straight forward swap, and provides the most output at the lowest cost, I think this could benefit members that are thinking about the swap, and have questions.

Instead of posting numerous new threads, they can come to this thread, and PM a couple members that have done the swap with possibly the same kind of car they want to do it in.

I'll start it off...

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Donor car: 1988 Acura Integra LS (blacktop D16a1)

Receiving car: 1987 Honda Civic Hatch 1500-S (carb'd 1.5)

Status: Bought donor car as of about a month ago, slowly working on carefully taking out everything I need, labelling, and getting ready for the swap later on.

Plans: Strip the D16a1, clean clean clean, low compression pistons, Block tank clean....assemble parts to be needed for boost! Civic includes GR-2's, Tokico springs..awaiting torsion bars, etc, etc.

tokico blues
fast breaks 11inch kit w/ 00 si calipers (really need a new MC)
DC header
GC coil overs

needs 25.6 mm t bars
home made rear sway bar ( not installed)

now the tricky part i do not hink side draft carbs will geive me adequate power so i am considering a turbo kit

Who needs a stinking D16A1 when you have the mighty D15A3?

Engine swaps are for those who have no imagination. A bigger TB, some P&P, more agressive cam, I/H/E and you are making the same kind of HP in a lighter package that features an ideal rod ratio.

Swaps are the result of herd mentality.... sticking with the D15A3 and maximizing its potential is for the rugged individualist.

Yeah that's what I'm looking to do.
Some head work and maybe a cam and keep the beast
of a D15A3 I've got now. (insert sound from
that commercial 'zoom-zoom' laugh.gif )

I doubt I'll even do anything to the bottom end
until it throws something out of the block.

But I'm gonna get another vehicle in the fleet
withen 3 years I hope.

i love turbo.. what can i say.. that pssh sound just makes me quiver.. laugh.gif

anyway..

Donor car: 1987 Acura Integra RS (browntop D16a1 w/164k miles)

Receiving car: 1987 Honda CRX Si (D15A3 w/221k miles)

Status: Bought donor car.. now working on getting parts to rebuild the engine and prep for the swap.. hopefully swap can be done by friends with the ability to help..

Plans: D16A1 w/ DSM T25 boosting 8psi..

I never once said anything that the D15a3 is bad or should be swapped out! My comment went towards those that don't have an FI car.

Simple87Si - we have more or less the same plans in mind...we love boost smile.gif

I plan to hopefully just run something little at around 5-6 psi, that with regular maintenance and I can keep the car as a daily driver all year round, but still have that extra "umpff" when I need it...and I'd love to throw some 107 octane in it, crank up the boost a little and take it to the track next summer!

I don't have a never ending pit money, so becoming real serious and doing a $500 bore to withstand more boost just isn't in mind at all...so I think this should satisfy me enough!

One of you I think I remember who but not certain made a post way back
"build your car like you really intend to drive it on the road, not the
way you drive it in your dreams"

I really took that comment to heart.

The fact is, what I really need most, is for this car to go another
trouble free 15 years as a daily or semi-daily driver. I need
the gas milage. I **want** a little more power at take off.
I don't need to pay for or debug a zc swap, for the 1% of
the time I might want to really blast off.

I thought about this long and hard. Put my effort into geting
the body back right, and painting it nice, and original.
I'll get my seats fixed way before I get a CF hood.

I might not even get a CF hood. I might just shell out next year
for a factory header, the aftermarket didn't line up good.

I guess its not as an exciting of a post saying I'm basically keeping
the stock engine with this being mostly a racing board. unsure.gif

Donor car: 1989 Acura Integra LS (blacktop D16a1)

Receiving car: 1986 Honda CRX Si

Status: Bought donor car about 3.5 years ago, appropriated drivetrain, engine controls, engine wiring harness, and the section of chassis wiring harness between the ECU & main engine connectors then had the remains hauled away.

I converted the CRX to "modern" electonics and dropped the donor motor in. Boy was it a dog. Initial inspection revealed that the thing had been run low on oil and the cam lobes & rockers looked at rough & withered as a 100 year old man's fingernails.

So, I acquired another 88-89 D16A1 and built it up:
Full headwork
Forged Pistons
Eagle H-beam Rods
Blacktop JDM ZC cams

Plans: The motor is built & on the stand awaiting installation. The problem is that the list of things I want to do "as long as I'm there" isn't getting any shorter.
Good thing I've got 5 other vehicles to rely on.
Once the motor is broken in NA, I may go down the Turbo road. At the rate things are going, that's a long way off.

I actually wanted to run it N/A after a full tear-down and tune-up / upgrade, but since I know I will be going boost, then I'd just have to take it apart again...but this way with the engine on the stand, I can weld all my piping right at my friends house with his welder (not me doing it of course biggrin.gif), with lots of room to work with, etc.

It wont be done any time soon, thats all I know dry.gif

All these motor swaps are boring, (including mine). I want to see Masta put a V6 in his CRX. He crammed a V6 into a Tracer, so I'm confident if anyone can do it, he can. wink.gif
