Depending on your location, you might have time trials available to you outside of SCCA. In New England, you could join COM sports car club. We do schools and time trials from eastern Canada all the way down to VIR. Once you earn your competition licence, you can drive whatever you want....there are classes from stock street cars up through Indy open wheel cars. With the proper safety equipment, you could run PC (which I'll run this coming year). This allows you to run just about anything that has enclosed wheels and 4 cylinders normally aspirated. As with any racing class, however, the more that's allowed, the more the serious racers will do. If you don't want to spend a bunch of money, and still have a chance to be even mid pack in the finish, stick with showroom stock where you can do shocks, tires and that's about it.
