Undo the 2 phillips screws on top and then get a very large screwdriver or a flat piece of metal thin enough to engage the groove on the plastic piece inside, screw the plastic piece down (clockwise) all the way. Replace the screws on top and it should be fine. You could also remove the valve and take it apart and clean it, sometimes works, mine did not. I now have mine totally disabled, no air ,no vacuum, no coolant, no high idle-so what.
Good luck, Glen cool.gif

How did you disable it if tightening this screw didn't work.

And when you mean clockwise, do you mean if we were sitting where the firewall is looking towards to radiator, or do you mean if we were sitting where the radiator is looking towards the firewall? Or am I completly wrong and the plastic thing is pointing upwards?

Thanks,

Nick

Nick, the plastic thing points upwards. I added a teg throttle body and had to radically modify the intake manifold, plugged all the ports leading to it. You only need that valve for high idle when the car is cold, not a big issue in socal.

I live in Ohio, and I'm not to sure if I should really remove this, since we do frequently get down to single digit temps, and even sub zero temps in the winter. Do you think it would be smart for me to completly rid the engine of this?

If so, could someone do a technical writeup on blocking/removing this piece?

Thanks,

Nick

Nick, I think you should try adjusting it and maybe cleaning it out. In cold weather you will want it unless you want to sit in the car and keep it running until it will idle. Removing it does not gain you anything.

well its fixed! I went out and tightened that plastic piece all the way clockwise and started her up! BOOM! Idles perfect now!

My question is, will I need to unscrew that in the winter? Or will it be fine for now on?

Thanks,

Nick

small serges sound like u need to bleed ur coolant system via the bleed cock near the distributor.

if not, then remove the same plug u tightened...take it to lowes or plumbing supply house match and replace the Oring. maybe also apply some silicone plumbers grease to the oring b4 installation.

bleed ur head, air in the system could cost u a head gasket

after I tightened mine down, the surge stopped, but the idle gradually drops when it gets up to temp. I've adjusted the idle up, and it usually seems to idle high. just when I come to a stop light/sign I have to keep part of my foot on the gas pedal. I'm clueless, so I just drive with the side of my foot.

after you unscrew the plate thats at the top of the iacv, whats supposed to be inside? is there a diaphram of some sort? the dumb ass that owned my car before me shoved a peice of a t-shirt in it......lol. my idle used to fluctuate alot (i just replaced the head gasket so its been a while since it ran). im tryin to save on expenses so if anybody has any info it would be much appreciated.

Afm27, There should be a plstic piece with a hole in the middle and slots for a WIDE screwdriver or other tool that will span the hole. Open the top(2 phillips screws), clean it out and then crank down the plastic piece all the way, adjust idle with the throttle stop on the TB.

whoa diggin up old threads aye.... i found to get my idle to behave i had to adjust the fast idle valve and idle screw to the right positions otherwise you get fluctuating idle occasionally... i couldnt beleive it when i finally fixed it for good, my fast idle screw was just about all the way in and during warmup if you drove HARD it would start fluctuating... it pissed me off for ages so i decided to adjust the fast idle valve out a little more so that the idle didnt drop so quick while warming up and to my amazement its fixed, hasnt fluctuated in aaaages.

so yea just play around with it and it will come right wink.gif
