Sorry for the complications. I, too, thought we were waiting for the ZC thing to resolve itself (personnally I do NOT want the bulge), but I hadn't heard anything.

alright folks, i havent read this whole thread, but i am planning on making a custom one-piece but full custom like nascar style and open like a semi with two sets of pins so it hinges but can be removed. of cource custom lathed out knurled aluminium pins too! i have a few drawings, but im not really an artist but if your interested, let me know.

...Dicking with the vacuum lines is not how you adjust ignition timing. That requires loosening the three bolts that hold the distributor and twisting on it.
