Wondering if any of you people ever come across something like this-motor runs great except at 6000 rpm, then its like the rev limiter hits(no backfire, just does not rev any higher and makes like its misfiring)It's a carbed EW with MSD6al(tried another one that i know is good)and a Blaster 2 coil.Tried with and without different rev limiter chips, changed coil and plug wires(MSD and Taylors).Ignition timing is locked but problem never showed up when that was done.Changed new plugs.
Would a bad ignitor or bad wires from the distributor pickup to coil do something like that? It's kinda intermitent(bad more often then good)and so one minute i think it's fixed and then it shows up again next day. sad.gif
Been trying to track this down for 3 weeks now (even took it to the dyno and hit it with a 100 shot of nitrous, hoping it would just blow up!-these motors are tough!)
Anyways hope someone has seen or heard about this and can help me out(before the 250 shot goes in) mad.gif

Bad fuel filter(s). Put new ones in and see what happens...

My car also does that, but my problem is that I turned the float level WAY down, before that it worked fine.... thats on my list of things to do... someday.

Cheers,

Thanks guys,i'll try that tomorrow but i'll hang a fuel pressure gauge on the hood first to see if it falls off in the upper rpms.Never had this problem with the stock fuel pump-wierd.And even after changing to the Holley blue pump,it was okay for quite a few weeks.(i did run the tank pretty low recently though.)At least you have given me something to go on.
I Love this place!!!

The l in the designation stands for limiter you should have a chip in it to limmit the revs, the chip plugs in and has the limit printed on it.

Yes he does, but the problem is the limiter kick in at 5300 no matter what chip he has in and even without a chip. THATS the issue.

Well ,found the problem.I guess both sets of plug leads that i tried- each had one bad one!(found it when the motor was running and i got zapped good by #3 wire)So it revs good now(thanks to 86CR-X for the NGKs)except for the flooding carb (dirt or something in carb inlet valve ) this whole morning during the meet-especially when lined up at a lite with Rampage and D16CRX!!Sputter sputter while those guys just take off. sad.gif Life is not fair -car ran great all the way home.)
