Ive seen some of you guys plaing around with the mumford end link frabrication annyone with tips and tricks ? or some more nice build pictures.. ill be starting drawing the parts in cad this week.

I'll keep following this as normal. Still thinking of trying this on a car if I get a welder.

guys im currently using a rear axle with the internal swaybar removed cut and welded end plate but i dont think the connecting rod on the torsion side of the axle will hold up with the abuse the suspension needs to handle. because of all the force will go into the connecting rod.

would an HF axle be a solution for me, and will they fit under my chassis ( i think i need the trailing arms of the hf because of the pivot point trailing arm my current car uses. )

after this upgrade i think i could mount the mumford end links and not break stuff the first time i will drive this car on the track.

thnx jerry, now finding out what the new url to the gallery of doodson is..

ow and a little update, found a nice person on this board who is willing to build the bellcranks and parts needed for the mumford setup for me, after some measurement and testing on the track. so i will be able to weld the parts on and build the mumford end link suspension sometime next year hopefully.

updates soon biggrin.gif

Let's get this topic back and up and running again. ive bought me a nice Car Body Rotisserie, so welding and working on the chassis will be a lot more fun.
ive got a local parts manufacturer that is willing to help me with the development of the bellcranks as soon as i have the first prototype mounted to the
chassis i will share my new found input on this project.

i hope j and greg and the other competition gurus can join in again biggrin.gif because im just a dump dutch guy tongue.gif

The Mumford link may be useful if you know where the rear roll center should be relative to the front on these cars...I, for one, haven't a clue where that is. I'm sure I could figure it out, but, I not sure the gains are worth the time and hassle spent to do that and the fabrication necessary to install one that works properly.

ive installed a 19mm front stabar and 29mm front torsion bars. and have the front end not lowered that extreme. can someone help me with calculating my front roll center ? i know how to do it with double wishbone front setups but i dont really know how to draw it with our kind of front suspension.

Can anyone clarify it with a simple line drawing ? or help me a little with this part? its been a while wink.gif

that way i can calculate the sizes of the bell cranks and the lenght of the endlinks of the correct rear roll center to go with the front roll center.

Hi Erwin,

Calculating the roll center on the front of a strut car is very similar to a double wishbone. On a strut car, the strut acts like a "sliding" upper control arm of infinite length. So do your front view drawing just like you would for a double wishbone car, but the strut instant axis is 90 degrees to the strut body axis.

Here's a pic of front roll center calcs I did on my old GT car to use in explaining what I mean.... You're looking at a front view of the driver's side tire and control arms.

You can see the UCA and LCA form instant axes that point to an instant center, and then you draw back from that to the centerline of the tire contact patch and measure the roll center height at the car centerline. Just substitute the strut for the UCA in your drawing and use the instant axis 90 degrees to the strut body. Your strut instant axis starts at the point where it connects to the strut tower and then shoots off at 90 degrees from that, looking just like that UCA instant axis in the pic above. Does that make sense? Sorry for the crappy pic. It was converted from Turbo CAD long ago....
