84-85 Distributor Timing Problem

I posted and pinned this in both  sub-forums.

 

 

 I found something interesting You have to follow in the FSM the illustration on 25-24 for the 84-85 models, it shows the number one mark and the relative locations of the other cylinder wires, but not the specific shape of the distributor cap.  On illustration 25-25 it has a top view, which is most, in part, incorrect.  The number one wire is closer to the mounting pin, than in the illustration, and both mounting pin tabs are not asymmetrical, one has more of a teardrop shape, opposed to nipple. and basically all the wire positions are 90degrees from where they are shown. Plus, there is no letters on most aftermarket caps, and in this illustration, no number 1 mark shown.

 

In short, if using an 84-85 distributor, use illustration 25-24 in the FSM
