My car is getting ready to paint soon, but need to figure out reinforcement of the stock plastics. I sank all of my money into other parts, and i do not have another $1000+ to buy fiberglass replacement panels.

Can anyone help me with how to fiberglass reinforce the plastics? Am i just adding layers of fiberglass to the back of the panels?

Thanks!

Hatch box did a couple videos on you tube. I did my door caps with fiberglass cloth. Worked pretty good.

I tried the fiber glass reinforcement method on some old plastics, and what I learned was, if you don't cover the entire back of the part, the area that does not have the fiberglass, WILL crack.  It's really hard to judge just how brittle your plastics are, so if you're going to do it at all, be sure to cover everything.  Keep it as thin as possible to avoid fitment issue.  One layer of matte should do fine.  if you have cracks showing on the exterior surfaces, fill those in with plastic weld instead of fiberglass, and then sand.

I've repaired a few pannels cracked in and and missing pieces.

I was able to hold it horizontally by the short piece, solid.

And I never finished it because I found a good one at the junkyard. But in will have to do my fenders/nose panel soon.
