It has the best combustion chamber. As for the ports and flow, I don't think there's any difference between it (PE3) and the Si (PE7) head...Oh, I forgot. The Canadian DX head has a slightly smaller exhaust valve than the Si head (32mm vs 33mm).
Seeing as you're in West Virginia, normally I'd suggest finding an Si head and installing that. But you mentioned that you have an 87 1.5 with the 8 valve head, which means you have an HF motor. I would not recommend putting a non CVCC head on an HF motor for a high performance upgrade. It won't last long, the rods aren't strong enough.
Best low buck suggestion if you're looking at performance... a D16A swap.
If you just want a little more performance and aren't worried about fuel mileage...swap in a DX or Si transmission. Trust me, it'll work.
But don't lose that HF gearbox until you let me know what your cars serial # is!

If you love the Elise, drive a Se7en - Caterham or whatever...
It has even less content than the Elise, is less graceful looking

Yeah, but it's real easy to tell the difference (as long as you can see it before you buy it).
Over the 3/4 exhaust ports:
And the combustion chamber is not round like it is in an Si head.

Nope, not having a lot of expectation of ever finding one either. At least not one that someone would be willing to part with.

The only way I've ever discovered what's in them is to disassemble them and count teeth.

And what end cover is on them will determine what length the mainshafts are (later or earlier 'box). Easy to tell that, I made a post about it a couple years ago.

Sure, but it won't help if the gearbox is out of the car and the car isn't around any longer.
Seventh digit of the serial number, if it's a 9, it's a HiAlt car.
