Project shit box is well under way and what's a better way to start a fresh redpepper thread. I miss this site. I feel at home here.

After much discussion, nay saying and nay sayers we've made massive leaps towards swapping in the k series engine. Not only do we have the mounts figured out for the k20 with k24 5 speed, we've also got the axles figured.

Stay tuned.

Here I am still trying to install a ZC/D16a1 in my car and you're a couple of generations ahead with a K-series. Keep up the good work. Looking forward to seeing what you do next.

Here's some more photos of the progress. First of all I have to say that this isn't for the faint of heart. This required a little inner frame massaging, a little more than the b series swap but a whole lot less than the dam h swap I did. Atleast I didn't have to cut the frame. The k swap is about 2 inches thinner. Seen below are the three mounts. I mocked it up to fit a k24 trans because they are so simple to find and are becoming more trendy.

The k24 and k20 have different mounts. And yes I will have the mount available for the k20 as well. One step at a time.

AXLES. Oh how I loathe finding axles for our chassis. Well the k swap has 27 spline inners and 26 spline outers. To some of you this may sound familiar. This is the same as the intrgra d16a1. Lovely. But the axles on both sides are way too long. Well not way too long but about 5/8" too long on one side and the other side just won't work at all.

After being in contact with the drives haft shop they are willing to make me just centers for 300 bucks a set or axles full for 500. Lucky me. I also have looked into cutting my own because they are pretty simple. Sadly I don't know if it will be worth it.

In order to make my own axles I need a special tool called a hobb. Or you can use a tool called an inverted cutter which is allot cheaper. If I could cut 20 pcs I might be able to make it worth my time but again, supply and demand.

Well here's some more photos of the swap.

Yes the hood shuts. (With mods) Cut hood and spacers for best ground clearance.

Ground clearance. K series. Two things that don't go together all that well. I am absolutely ecstatic on how much there actually is on this chassis. After instalation, messaging the frame frail, repositioning, leveling and tilting so the oil pan is flat to the road surface, I was able to get the most height without cutting a hole through the hood. At stock height 7.25 inches of clearance.

Upon further inspection of the oil pan and design I wasn't able to come up with anything more than I did. I was going to make a custom pan but the internals already ride about 1/2 an inch from the bottom of the pan so there's nothing to save.

Clearance photos.

What else to do:

Finalization of projects is really hard when you are literally only building this to provide a customer with mounts. I would love to finish the rest of the work on this chassis but it won't happen right now. But please stay tuned because there is some other stuff I am going to be making including:

Alternator relocation
Custom header
Downpipe
And much more.

nice! I'm guessing it's safe to say no a/c with this?

This car never had it. The customer I'm working with really wants AC. We've been looking at inverting a pump and making a specific bracket just for that.

Yes, yes and many more yeses.  This might change a lot of people's swap plans.  Thanks for doing this!

How would prices compare to the Hasport b series mounts/axles?

Nice!

I might just buy another 1G and swap a K20 into it another 5-6 years down the road and make it into a little dragster.
