anyone know what would happen if a thermovalve had a port unsealed and i went to start my car?? would it be driveable, or would it cause any problems. i broke one and attempted to seal it but im not really completely certain if it sealed off.

You'd have a vacuum leak. The system affected would depend on which one you broke. Welcome to the Valve Busters club. I broke two.

Going to Hawaii? You need a Dune Buggy.

WTB: 14x8 or 9" Panasports or Watanabe RS.

WTB: 3g Civic hatch gauge cowl, brown.

its thermovalve A on an 85 accord. it coneects to the distributor, the electronic thingy on my carb, and to a bleed valve on the filter. i broke the one that leads to the bleed

heres a diagram...

The purpose of thermovalves is to turn something on or switch it off when the water temperature reaches a certain point as the car warms up. If the line leads to the distributer, I'd say it's probably important. If it leads to the check valve it either switches off the intake warming flap door or one of the emissions valves (on the CRX anyway). So you will either be running with more emissions or without optimal air flow through the carb.

The easiest thing would be just to replace the valve and not worry about taking chances with what it can do to your car. At a minimum, you should plug all the lines because dust from the air into any vacuum line will eventually end up in your combustion chamber, shortening the life of the engine.

I have some spares, but they are for the CRX.

the line that broke (the one in the diagram) was to be plugged. if it didnt totally seal will it lead to problems either now or in the future? line #17 goes to a bleed valve inside the filter box, behind the filtered air flow.

Oh yeah I meant bleed valve not check valve. I'd say yeah. It would lead to problems eventually.

is that a guess or is it a certainty. normally its vents, but its behind the filter incase it ever starts to suck instead of blow. so it gets filtered air

I would just replace the broken valve. What is the big deal about that?

Oh, if you're talking about just starting the car and driving around a while, no problem. I just wouldn't let it go for months without fixing it. That's all.
