[quote name='WOLFCRX' post='512174' date='Jan 30 2011, 02:08 AM']Found these pictures of a Straman in Texas taken May 5 2009, I got Texas off the license plate.

Doug[/quote
I recently purchased the Straman civic in the picture out of Dallas Texas It is number ST 1081 in fair condition has one fender badge on it and the plate in the door. It is pretty much all original with 89,000 miles showing on the odometer. I have 1400.00 dollars in it and it runs drives and is inspected. Cosmetically it is in pretty rough shape. I am wondering where replacement moldings and convertible roof could be had? It has original paint and runs amazingly well, although it idles very fast when cold. If anyone has parts like moldings and such give me a shout.

Thanks

Welcome to RPR!! My car is #ST1082, so our car were buds back at Straman's shop. You will find lots of help here at RPR. I like these cars in white with the blue interior. I know of an '84 Straman in those same colors, also in Dallas.

The car was beat up when I bought it for 800 bucks. 86 si 5 speed. Only thing good about it was that it starts up right away and made a trip from AZ to Vegas.

dgjtex and humdeth,

Welcome to the club and yes, please send more pix.

Slim mentioned that 81 was brother to his 82. The owner of my 10 told me there were always 5 in the shop over the month or so he was visiting watching his baby progress back in "84. So I'd guess you could open your brotherhood maybe plus or minus 2 or 3. So I fugure 7,8,9,11,12,13 could have very well been in the shop when mine was there. The owner has pix from the teardown and build but has not found them for me yet. I call him from time to time to get updates.

Djgtex,

Just dawned on me that BP looked at 1081 and it sold earlier this year for $800 - blown head, worn top, cracked plastics, but solid metal body, from original owner, non accident?? that was awesome. So DGJtex, I assume that was you who got it?? I looked back at a post a few weeks ago for 1081 selling on Craigs for $3500?? So whats that story?? I hope you have it. That makes three straman's here in Dallas. I could get in touch w/ the 87si straman owner and we could try to get together for a straman mini meet. I don't think there's a pix posted that I've seen 3 or more straman's in one location. Mine's sat in my garage undriven since 2002 so I just can't pull it out and take her for a spin. I have the Cali pinkslip and never registered it since its been in storage. I think this car drove peppier than my SIs due to the lighter body. Mine's all original paint, top, interrior. Would love to compare to see the differences in craftmanship of our cars.

Let me know

Just so you know, Djtex is the one that bought the Straman for $800ish and is now selling it for $3500. I wish him luck, but we will see if he finds a buyer.

I was the one that stumbled onto humdeth's single post from late last year and asked him to update me on the car's ST# and other info. I hope he replies to me or this thread with his Straman's info so we can add his car to the registry.

We had 3 next to each other at the Wolf's den in 2008.

I think that is the recent record for number of Stramans together. We need to arrange somehow to break that mark.

That is cheating since Wolf owns two. He can have a Straman convention every day in his own garage!

I was happy to get together with the other Straman here in town last summer. His car does not have the Straman stamping, but it would be close to my ST1082 car since his and my car were both delivered to O'Neill Honda here in KC on the same truck back in June 1986.

At this point in the game, I'll take 3 if all by the same owner... haha...

There is another CRX conversion here in DFW owned by one of BP's friends who will be hosting our Gulf States Meet this year. If I don't get the time to get mine running, I'll just haul it over so we can at least get 2 convertibles here in our neck of the woods. Not sure who did the other conversion, but the top goes from the windshield to the taillights. Here's the shot

So we have the potential of getting 4 together here someday

Slim, I missed that you had a straman mini your way. I'll have to check a map, but Kansas could be doable for me someday. Getting out to Cali or NYC is a bit of a drive.

As far as pricing.... I haven't seen (heard) of one selling for over $1K in 2-3yrs. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Anyone here if that 10K red Straman that was last seen around $5K ever sold?

Going back to the taillights = a whole lot of fabric and plastic window. I like the targa bar! Does it have full folding convertible top irons? I'd like to see any pictures you have of this CRX with the top up. It's a whole different take on a convertible conversion vs. Straman's concept.

As for visiting Wolf with a Straman being considered cheating, "Yes, it is!" :-P

Wolf, I've been dying to get shop build photos from the previous owner. I'm sure yours would be in there somewhere. Seems like full rate production had no more than 5 in the shop at any on time.

BP might have more pix of the Non Straman. I know it will be at this years meet, so one of us will get those shots. Would be cool to compare and see how they did this one. That particular car was very clean from my memory. Picture shows front plastics in great shape and I believe it was.

This car looks to be the earliest conversion in our registry, at this point he has been unable to find and Straman ID number on the convertible frame but after a detailed inspection of the car I have found that it is 100% a Straman conversion. It is virtually identical to my 84 Straman but with a much earlier vin# then mine.

OWNER POSTED COMMENT
I bought this car from someone who was days away from sending it to the scrap pile. It was sitting under some tarps, on the side of their house for 11 years. I was told that it had a cracked head, no keys, and no paperwork. This person bought this car and never transfered the title into his name because the cylinder head cracked shortly after he got it.He said that he didn't have the money to fix it and then lost interest in it. Can you believe it only 310 of these cars ever made and he lost interest in it! Wow! The project is coming along nicely. It is #73 0f 310. I had some keys made, gutted and replaced the interior and seats, had a new top made, then bought some rims and tires for it.
Oh...and guess what folks...The head was never cracked. The only problem was the radiator was split at the seems. He should have gotten a second opinion...
