i actually did a quick search of the thread to see if Kaka posted anything about why he didn't use rain-x, and I didn't see anything right off... but I only searched the last few pages where the kakawiper writeup was.

Pages 90+ I searched.

I don't think he actually meant that kaka made a reference to rain-x... that is just really not a safe alternative when you consider actually driving on the street.

To be honest I've never tried it. Although I used to carpool w/a guy that was a freak about NOT turning on his wipers in the rain. He said he used Rain-X and didn't need to use them...I was not impressed.

Believe it or not, I've never driven the Kakabox in the rain in the last two out of three ax seasons. Call me a wimp, but I just don't go to the track if it's raining. However, now that I have to drive up to 200 miles round trip to the events, I'd rather have the Kakawiper just in case it rains while I'm out. It works better than Rain-X and is street legal! Oh, yeah, did I mention I think the Kakawiper is cool?













OK already! Enough w/the wiper and RainX discussion! Sheese! It is what it is...just a safety item so I can see out of the windsheild when it's raining and I'm far from home. I'm not advocating it for dd's or people to change out their OE wipes...I just tossed out the mod as a simple/light/compact wiper system for "off road use only" cars!

Let's all get back to some more serious tech...like helping firstgencrx solve the Zippymobile's brake and front control arm issues!

RainX works pretty good if you dont use the wipers. But once you use them once, it kinda makes it worse, it seems like it doesnt let it sheet off anymore it makes it bead up real small beads that the wipers cant get off.

I use RainX on everything but the windshield and it does make a difference.

Also dont ever use FogX.

I used to use Optician grade anti-fog.. stuff to stop nerdy kids' glasses from fogging when they're watching movies with boobs in them.. it worked pretty good, but you have to put it on the inside of the window.

And, it's prohibitively expensive, and not really worth it.

I used the rain-x brand Fog-X and its horrible. It stops it from fogging over for an extra like 4-5min's but the once it does fog over its damn near impossible to get it visable. Once it fogs and you wipe it off, it basicly becomes semi-transluscent and you cant see through the glass till it drys.

Exhaust v2.0
Modified the existing exhaust for lightness and hopefully lower noise level.

I eliminated the 'cat', Magnaflow 16" muffler, and one ball-n-cone joint...


In their place I welded in a 26" long 2.25" dia "Powerstick" (chambered exhaust): http://www.classicch...lassic/faq.html


I just cut the fwd section off of the v1.0 and welded in the new muffler and a new ball-n-cone connection ( https://www.drgas.ne...?cid=48&catid=2 ):


The new exhaust weighs 3 lbs. less...

...15 lbs. vs. 18.

Along w/the weight reduction, I'm hoping that the longer muffler will also quiet the exhaust down a tad. The Powerstick has 26 inches of muffler length vs. 16" for the Magnaflow. Also, there is no packing (fiberglass or otherwise) to burn out so the sound suppression mechanism will not wear out. I'll report back about the sound level and quality once I get the K'box back on the road. It's offline for some Winter mods!

I am always a sucker for side exit exhausts and that one looks awesome and ever so simple! however, the primer color screams unfinished imo

I also think it would be cool to just make an exhaust that dose not have a side exit at all and instead it would just have a turn down after the muffler and then have some type of heat shield on the fuel tank... as long as you were not sitting around in one spot of too long it would be even lighter and have no bends

Damnit I want results now! I have been running open header on my civic for the better part of 1500 miles now and I really want the simplicity of side exit but the muffler selection is limited- that seems to be exactly what I've been looking for IF it turns down the noise as much as they claim. How much did it cost you? If its too much I'll go back to my 2 glasspack idea

You'd be at least yellow-carded if not red-carded here. The exhaust outlet has to be just beyond the perimeter of the car. A ' prevention of being quietly gassed by carbon monoxide' thing that the local licensing people seem to be keen on.

Pretty sure that's ceramic coating of some sort... at least piss-can heat coating.

The "primer" is Cold Zinc Galvanizing Compound..."93% pure zinc". It's really not considered a primer as it's not meant to be top coated at all.

I paint all my exhaust that I don't have JetHot coated w/it. I find it lasts longer than VHT Hi-Temp paint and isn't as fussy to apply (no curing req'd). It is extremely heat resistant, will not flake off, and you can MIG weld through it if required. Of course nothing underneath rusts either! The light grey color allows you to find any exhuast leaks very easily.

BTW: the tip is stainless...it's a left over section of a Bassani 'X'-pipe I had on my previous hobby car. It's welded on. The band clamp is only an adjustable hanger; by rotating it I can change the clearance btwn the tip and the rocker panel. I really like the "looks" of the tip and the stainless steel material keeps it from rusting as no paint or coating would ever stay on that section due to it being 'sandblasted' by debris kicked up from the front right tire.

A "dump"...straight off the muffler using a short turndown tip...yeah, I've seen those on some Miata ax cars. Super light weight, very noisy and, as I've been told, a little stinky in the cabin. It's light weight and simple for sure, however, I wouldn't want to risk the "sleeping death" as anjin eludes to!

As for the noise level...yeah, I've got to wait for that too. I'm doing some suspension mods that require the car to be up on stands and I'm too lazy to drop it down, test, and then put it up again.
