Just make sure to get that car out soon and take some distanced shots >_> It looks great up close but I'd like to see some "This sums it up" pics of the car out in the sun enjoying some fresh air or stretching its legs on some course smile.gif

I've been following this build practically since it started and have read nearly ever comment on ever post... it is one top notch build. Not surprised in the slightest that it started first crank wink.gif

An amazing feat. In the time span from your first post made on Sep 23 2005, 04:31 PM, to the day and time it started a new life, posted on May 19, 2007, 1:17 AM, it is finally alive. Congratulations!!!

It is very safe to say that you have more patience than most, an understanding lady at home, more time on your hands than many, and more intestinal fortitude than the entire forum combined. My hat is off to you for your dedication, foresight, skills and vision.

Damn, I'm jealous!!!

Now, that's the good news. The flip side to that is , get back to work and really get this SOB finished. wink.gif tongue.gif biggrin.gif

Respectfully,

Donnie

Ghetto Floor Mats:

I used ACC carpet left over from my other hobby car project. It's inexpensive, plastic backed, light weight carpet. It definitely not Porsche or Mercedes quality, but it looks ok.

First I made a template of the floor area:

...traced the shape onto the carpet:

...then cut out the piece (I used very sharp scissors):

I used Velcro (heavy duty adhesived back, ultra thin) to hold the "mat" to the floor board:

I strategically placed strips of the fuzzy Velcro on the floor:

I masked over the fuzzy side to prevent the glue squeeze out from getting on the floor and in the fuzz. I then mounted the hook side on top of the fuzzy side so that they were mated together:

Then, starting from the top edge of the mat, I peeled away the backing sheet from the Velcro and, using hot glue, I welded the hook side to the carpet's plastic back. I just laid a series of beads of hot glue on the Velcro adhesive, then pressed the carpet against it. The hot glue actually welds the Velcro tab onto the carpet's plastic backing. I did this one by one, starting from the top and working systematically down and ending at a corner. Since I had already matched the hook side w/the fuzzy side, there was no worry about the hooks "missing" the fuzzy target. When I was done, I had all the hook tabs in perfect position to mate w/the fuzzy tabs on the floor:

Done:

This ghetto carpet mat does not move or pucker! I made a similar one for the driver's side.

Cheers! cool.gif

Thank you.

Yes, I'm a member of BEAC. The next practice session is this coming Saturday, June 2nd. The Kakabox and I will be there. This will be the Kakabox's debut on the ax course. I've got ~100 miles on the 'box currently and I'm not disappointed w/the performance of the car. The driver does need more seat time, however! laugh.gif

I'm hoping to get lxndr out there also in his "brand X" car. You should come out also...pay your $5 (I assume you're a member), bring your helmet and make it a day of practice.

Hope to see you there!

Cheers!

The oem side trim was wasted when I got the car. I peeled them off and tossed them.
I used this as a replacement:

...it is high quality, solid cross section rubber trim w/3M adhesive tape already applied. I bought it at a local Autobody supply house.
