I just had my 8th visitor knocking on the door asking if the CRX was for sale, and the 8th person turned away.
The only thing I could think to trade the crx for would be a better condition crx.

Look, I like my CRX as much as the next guy. But let's put this into perspective, it is just a car. An old car at that.
I love old cars. But let's be very clear on this: New cars are hugely superior to any kind of old car. The newest KIA is a vastly superior car to anything from the 1960's. The old cars may look "cool," but the new KIA will do EVERYTHING better than a car from whatever you consider the "Golden Age." My current Daily Driver is a '07 Civic Si which makes me weep with joy everyday because I am allowed to own a car that sits near the pinacle of 100+ years of automotive advancement.
But... I do love my creaky little CRX. Because it is fast? There are faster cars. Economical? Not after I have modfied it. Comfortable? Hardly. Beautiful? Pizza ovens have more style.

Scott, your opinions on this board are always well respected, me not excluded. But this one i am going to have to put with the "drums are better than discs" argument. you are WRONG! lol
The CRX is NOT just a car! it never has been! a kio rio is just a car. a ford escort is just a car. a dodge neon is just a car. a honda accord, while i thoroughly loved my 88 LXI, is JUST A CAR. for one to put the Honda CRX in the same category is SIN. if the CRX was "just a car" then why would so many of us work so hard on such an soda can of a car? why would so many people stop and ask "Is it for sale?" when they could go down to the KIA dealership and buy two cars for the price of one?
New cars are hugely superior to any kind of old car? i hugely disagree! this also begs the question, what is your definition of an "old car"? most people consider any car 10 years old as "old" so any car before 2000 is "old". i am more of the opinion that 20 is the magic number, but either way i do not believe a BRAND NEW Kia will do everything better than a car from the "golden age" which i believe is the 80's. Top Gear even showed that the best supercars were made in the 80's. a new porsche carrera GT only does 210 mph while the mclaren f1 does 236 (i think) and i forget how fast the jag xj220 went but i think it was faster as well.
A car should last. unless its a race motor, there is no reason an engine should disintegrate at 100,000 miles. KIA engines are SHIT and to me, the engine is the heart of the car, and the car can only be as good as its heart. KIA = SHIT
i hate fords but i would even venture to say that a 1986 escort will do plenty of things "better" than a brand new KIA, and it doesn't make you gay either.
and my last point. economy. my 1984 CRX HF 1.3 listed on http://www.mpgomatic.com.
1984 Honda Civic Coupe 4 cylinder (M5) Manual 51 67
67 miles to the gallon highway! 51 in town! lets look at a brand new HYBRID car, DESIGNED for fuel economy.
Toyota Prius
4 cyl, 1.5 L, Automatic (variable gear ratios), Regular 48 45
this is a car with an electric motor that uses no gasoline under a certain speed (hence the higher city mileage) and it STILL doesn't touch the CRX's 51 city! now lets look at your brand new KIA
Kia Rio
4 cyl, 1.6 L, Automatic 4-spd, Regular 26 35
the automatic actually gets better highway mileage. but i think i would have to thrash the bejesus out of the HF to get 26 in the city, if at all possible.
now before you all start up about crash test ratings and comfort and the fact that those cars weigh so much more, Scott claimed a new KIA will do EVERYTHING better than an old car. a new kia doesn't get better gas milage, and the engines do not last past the 100,000 mile warranty. again, how is this korean piece of garbage technically more superior to anything at all? is it more comfortable? sure, as much as mom's 1996 buick roadmaster. is safer when you run into something? you can bet your kid's asses on it.
the CRX may not be safer, but i dont plan on running into things. i plan on using the car's nimbleness to drive around obstacles. sure things happen, and women drive SUVs talking on their cell phones and putting on their makeup, but i dont have kids, so i'll have to deal with that if it happens.
and lastly, how can you say pizza ovens have more style? the CRX is a beautiful car. sure its no ferrari, and its no pussy magnet, but i LOVE the 80's boxy look. its aggressive and masculine. unlike just about ANY newer roundy girly car. and i think we've all seen the Cartech CRX... and its pure sex...
sorry Scott, you are just wrong on that one lol. the rest of your reply however, is spot on

I decided about 4 years in that I wanted to keep this car my whole life.
So in a way, your question is like saying [to me]
what will you trade your dreams for?
I'd like to say NOTHING!
But really, its the lotus elise.
Or of course crazy money.
I think that is the modern equivelent of the CRX.
2 seater, all about efficiency, 30 mpg, etc etc.
I also want to be the founding member of the
"CRXs are not ugly club".
(pizza oven????? lol)

After twenty-three years of ownership, there's no way I'd part with my CRX. It's such an integral part of my life I can't imagine being without it. Commuting just wouldn't be the same.
If I ever came into enough $$$ that would enable me to afford some exotic car, I'd get something not quite as exotic...and finally paint the CRX.

AT LEAST ITS NOT A MIATA. fucking girly cars. i dont care how good they handle or the fact that they're RWD. they're OVERRATED

And every time I sit in a Porsche, and every time I rev a Lambo's engine to 7 grand......I forget what the CRX is altogether......
But as we've covered before, for the cars I'd be willing to trade for NOBODY would trade me for the CRX whether I was willing to or not.
But I hazard a guess that is ANY of you diehards had driven a proper Porsche or Lambo or Ferrari, you would consider trading the CRX......once you have felt that kind of power, grip and brakes......everything else just doesn't compare anymore.
BUT I STILL LOVE MY CRX......

proper porsche? so im guessing my dad's 1965 356-c doesn't count then eh? lol
yeah comparing the crx to a porsche and lambo isn't quite fair. they are supercars. apples and oranges
but i think when you compare a good condition CRX to someone's "raced out" 93 civic hatch or 98 integra, the CRX feels more like a true "sports car" because to me, a true sports car is like my sig says, bare essentials. steering wheel, pedals, shifter, couple seats, a few panels to hide all the metal, and a heater. (i've got my AC stripped as many do)
as soon as they put in cup holders and power windows, i think that "sports car" feel just went out the window. dont get me wrong a 98 teg is a great car, but its to refined. i guess i just like rickety old cars because they have so much more feedback. they tell you what they road is doing and what it (the car) is having to put up with. and i think people who cant take it and must have the "new(er)" car is a PUSSY!
right before my HF blew up, it was running on 3 cyl, crusing down the highway, and i was thinking to myself "even on 3 cyl, theres not a different car i would rather be driving" and i actually felt that way... all the way up till the side of the highway

I said proper just to avoid someone saying something like "well I've driven a Porsche 924 and it SUCKED" becasue 924s DO suck.
I'm biased becasue I HAVE driven a 996 Race car and a brand spanky new GT2 and I LOVE them both.
But I also LOVE my CRX..

no i know, but basically most new cars are designed for women who drive like they are planning on it!
