i have had many people, guys and girls alike ask me, "why dont you sell all those old cars and get something newer? more reliable?"

i seriously considered it one day. why do i get all these 500 dollar cars and work my ass off to keep them running and drivable?

i pondered what "newer" car i would actually think worthy of saving up my money or god forbid, get a loan and make payments on.

perhaps a subaru, there no newer hondas i actally enjoy the body shape of. i like the performance of a k20 but id rather it be in a crx

then i thought.... well id rather have the subaru engine in the crx...

shit. no, i think i'd just rather have a swapped CRX smile.gif there is a special bond between me and my crx's. dont know what it is, but i love these cars and would rather be driving one of these any day of the week. they are so much fun and so small and nimble.

OOO ok i would trade for an old school RHD mini with a type R engine! seen it, want it, id trade smile.gif

hmmm. maybe if i could get my old 2nd gen back. but that won't happen...

+1, I had a 2g civic 1500 that I loved and would trade my 3g for it in a heartbeat.

everything has a price....the Straman would change hands readily if there were a large amount of cash presented

*dreaming* I'd also trade it for about $300,000 = rough total sum of all my debt. *dream over/wake up*

If it has to be another car it wouldn't be anything new. Maybe a '34 Ford 3 window coupe chopped & chanelled with a small block chevy engine.

Just buy a second car, no need to get rid of the 1g/3g wink.gif

I only considered selling it if I moved somewhere far away, with no garage...but even then, Id probably end up paying storage fees here, and letting the car collect dust sad.gif

I am resigned to being buried in my Civic.

blink.gif

Look, I like my CRX as much as the next guy. But let's put this into perspective, it is just a car. An old car at that.

I love old cars. But let's be very clear on this: New cars are hugely superior to any kind of old car. The newest KIA is a vastly superior car to anything from the 1960's. The old cars may look "cool," but the new KIA will do EVERYTHING better than a car from whatever you consider the "Golden Age." My current Daily Driver is a '07 Civic Si which makes me weep with joy everyday because I am allowed to own a car that sits near the pinacle of 100+ years of automotive advancement.

But... I do love my creaky little CRX. Because it is fast? There are faster cars. Economical? Not after I have modfied it. Comfortable? Hardly. Beautiful? Pizza ovens have more style.

I love my old CRX because it is the "blank canvas" upon which I can apply my automotive artisitic expression. No boss to please, no committee, no consulting with the wife This car is totally MY expression of what I want it to be. All decisions are made by ME. All credit or blame belongs to ME. It may have been orginally built by Honda, but it has been re-born through my hard work and imagination.

Would I trade it? Make me an offer. Is that the Sounds of Silence I hear?

Would I sell it? My "investment" in this car is Upside Down, the money invested far exceeds the market value. No one would drop a pile of money on my pile of shit.

Out here in Los Angeles, a well maintained car will live forever. At 20+ years old, it is just at the very begining to get old enough for someone to notice it as being out of the usual by local standards (this is the land of the 40 year old daily driver). While I enjoy the attention, I prefer to "fly under the radar." Between the cops and the thieves, you will be punished for driving something out of the ordinary.

I love my CRX. But more than just a car it is-

My artistic expression
My entry into amateur racing
My entry into car meets, shows, cruises, etc.
My reason to get pwned on the internet

Scott

a Superleggera, or a Veyron (LMFAO) things would be different, and copious amounts of money can be very persuasive.

AMEN BROTHER......I've DRIVEN a Superlegerra.......I would trade my CRX for one in a heartbeat.

There are MANY cars I'd trade my CRX for, but none of them have a price under $100,000.00 and nobody who owns one would EVER consider trading me for my CRX.....unless they are slightly unhinged in the mental department.

NOW.....Realistically, if some crazy rich fella decided to trade me his 911 GT2 (which Is also AWESOME to drive) for my CRX, I couldn't afford to insure the damn thing anyway! So I guess I'll stick with the CRX!

Yeah pretty much eh? What it basically comes down to is that I couldn't afford to insure or drive any of the cars I would trade it for (I'm 21, lol), I guess it's the reason I have it tongue.gif

BTW, I'm insanely jealous you've driven a Superleggera!! ...one day dry.gif

What would I trade my 87 CRX for?

An 85-87 corolla hatchback. AE85 or AE86, I don't really care... so long as it's not turning to rust-dust, I'm game.
Or 240SX
Maybe if someone had a 240z they were dieing to get rid of tongue.gif

Late 80s Honda CBR250... four stroke, DOHC, 250cc, 18000rpm, 45ps... All in all, one sexy learner bike.

Wow, EuphoricBlue, I have not felt so happy about my cheap car collection in a long time. You should stop by next time your in the area.

Short/interesting list -
90 240SX coupe w/silvia front "painted" and 300ZX brakes.
74 260Z
88 Yamaha FZR400 w/4082 miles

As far as what I would trade the 84 CRX B16 for? Like Kaymo said, I saw a B16 powered RHD mini 3 weeks ago, 1200 lbs soaking wet, That would be fun. At the same event I saw and listened to one of the best sounding street cars I've ever heard, a supercharged Lotus Exige. That might do it too. Either way we are all a little alike, it would not be a run of the mill car, it would have to be weird or special or unique. You know what I'm saying.

Either way it would be one of the last to go.

LOL, if I showed you a picture of how the CRX currently sits, you would understand the "realistic" list. Realistically, I'd be lucky to get 300 from a wrecking yard at this point.

My MR2 is my daily driver, and that's a "project" car too. Frankly, I'm getting a little sick of driving project cars. I want a car with shiny, matching paint where my hair doesn't rub on the roof for a daily driver. Keep my project in the garage until it's done.

If I had 100K to spend on a car, I'd buy an NSX for 25 (or less) and use the rest on my "projects".

Yeah, NSX would be badass...I have always wanted one

I wouldn't trade my B20 hatch for anything less than a 99-01 5spd CR-V + (near rust free white 86 Si or near rust free 84-85 wagon) + 88-89 Integra + $20k. oh and a good mig welder + plasma cutter. You can image what I would end up with in the end. smile.gif

The EW4 hatch would be a much lower price.

Keeping my X til I dye. Unless of course a rediclous ammout of cash was offered. It's hard to put a price on years of ownership, experiences, and $ spent on a car that the insurance companies value at next to nothing. My son is 8 and he loves the CRX - wants to ride in it all the time, he may be the only one who would come close to ownership of my car, but chances are I'll just end up building him one of his own one day.
Helping keep the first generation CRX alive!

There's a list of about 300 cars I'd easily trade a 1g crx or 3g civic for. There is never a problem finding another one here in Seattle. I gave my last one away to a guy that would take better care of it than I. -Patrick

I just don't think I could part with Dean... (my humble little name for my white little beast) lol It was my first car, and has taught me so much, and I mean more than just "skills" or lack there of, behind the wheel. Plus, to me it's a classic and will always be worth more than just an old car, weather it becomes an investment in my wealth or not. But a 911 GT2 or 3 would more than stop me in my tracks for a moment or two. wink.gif

Trust me......if you drove a 911 GT2 for more than 30 seconds, there would be NO DOUBT in your mind that the CRX must be traded. I've driven one of those too.......530HP and Carbon Ceramic brakes are VERY persuasive.

I love my CRX and love how it can outperform many far more expensive cars, but it is NO match for a GT2 or Superleggera and if I had the money, either one of those cars would be in my driveway and the CRX would be neglected.

Realistically we all know I'll never get rid of the CRX unless I'm forced to, but hypothetically, as the initial question was posed....I would trade it in a heartbeat for an exotic.
